Ingredients:
- 2 lbs round steak, cut into serving-size pieces
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- ½ cup beef broth
Method:
- Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C). Season the steak with salt and pepper, then lightly coat each piece with flour.
- Heat the oil in a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the steaks for 2–3 minutes per side, then transfer them to a plate.
- In the same skillet, sauté the onion, bell pepper, and garlic for 3–4 minutes. Stir in the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, and beef broth.
- Return the steaks to the skillet and spoon some of the tomato mixture over them. Cover tightly and bake for 1½–2 hours, until the steak is tender and the gravy is rich and flavorful.
- Serve hot over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles, spooning plenty of the tomato gravy over the top.
