Ingredients:
- 1 lb beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced
- 4 cups fresh broccoli florets
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
- ½ cup beef broth
- ¼ cup soy sauce
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ¼ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
- Cooked white rice, for serving
- Sesame seeds and sliced green onions, for garnish
Method:
- In a small bowl, whisk together the beef broth, soy sauce, brown sugar, cornstarch, sesame oil, and black pepper. Set aside.
- Heat 1 tbsp vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat. Add the sliced beef and stir-fry for 2–3 minutes, until browned. Remove the beef and set aside.
- Add the remaining oil to the skillet. Add the broccoli and cook for 3–4 minutes. Add a splash of water, cover, and steam for another 2 minutes until the broccoli is bright green and tender-crisp.
- Add the garlic and ginger and stir-fry for about 30 seconds. Return the beef to the skillet.
- Pour in the sauce and stir everything together. Cook for 2–3 minutes, until the sauce thickens and coats the beef and broccoli.
- Serve hot over steamed white rice and garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions.
