italian stuffed shells

Ingredients :

  • 1 box (12 ounces) jumbo pasta shells
  • 1 pound ground Italian sausage or ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (24-ounce) jar marinara sauce
  • 1 (15-ounce) container ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Préparations :

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Cook large noodle shells according to package directions until tender. Drain and set aside to cool.
  • In a large skillet, cook the ground Italian sausage or beef over medium heat until browned and cooked through, breaking it up into crumbles as it cooks. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and cook until the onion is softened and translucent. Drain any excess grease.
  • Stir in 1 cup of marinara sauce into the meat mixture, and let it simmer for a few minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese, grated Parmesan cheese, chopped parsley, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper. Mix well until everything is evenly combined.
  • Spread a thin layer of tomato sauce on the bottom of the baking dish.
  • Stuff each cooked shell with a generous spoonful of the ricotta cheese mixture, then place them in the baking dish in a single layer.
  • Once all the shells are stuffed and arranged in the baking dish, spoon the remaining marinara sauce over the top of the shells.
  • Sprinkle the remaining shredded mozzarella cheese over the sauce.
  • Cover the baking sheet with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes, or until the cheese is golden brown and the edges of the shells are slightly crispy.
  • When ready, remove from oven and allow to cool for a few minutes before serving.
  • Garnish with chopped parsley and grated Parmesan cheese, if desired.
Serve the Italian stuffed shells hot and enjoy this delicious and comforting meal with your family and friends!
