Swiss Steak 🥩🍅

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs round steak, cut into serving-size pieces
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • ½ cup beef broth

Method:

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C). Season the steak with salt and pepper, then lightly coat each piece with flour.
  2. Heat the oil in a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the steaks for 2–3 minutes per side, then transfer them to a plate.
  3. In the same skillet, sauté the onion, bell pepper, and garlic for 3–4 minutes. Stir in the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, and beef broth.
  4. Return the steaks to the skillet and spoon some of the tomato mixture over them. Cover tightly and bake for 1½–2 hours, until the steak is tender and the gravy is rich and flavorful.
  5. Serve hot over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles, spooning plenty of the tomato gravy over the top.
