For the Crust

  • 300 g all-purpose flour
  • 200 g unsalted butter, softened
  • 120 g granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs

For the Apple Filling

  • 4–5 medium apples, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 100 g granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch

For the Creamy Glaze

  • 150 g powdered sugar
  • 2–3 tbsp milk or cream
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Prepare the crust:
Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). In a bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs and mix well. Gradually add flour and mix until a soft dough forms.
  2. Layer the base:
Press two-thirds of the dough evenly into a lined baking pan. Set aside the remaining dough.
  3. Make the filling:
In a bowl, combine sliced apples, sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, and cornstarch. Mix well until apples are coated.
  4. Assemble:
Spread the apple mixture evenly over the crust. Crumble or gently spread the remaining dough over the apples.
  5. Bake:
Bake for 35–40 minutes or until golden brown. Allow to cool completely.
  6. Glaze:
Whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Spread over cooled bars. Let set before slicing into squares.
