For the Crust
- 300 g all-purpose flour
- 200 g unsalted butter, softened
- 120 g granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
For the Apple Filling
- 4–5 medium apples, peeled and thinly sliced
- 100 g granulated sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
For the Creamy Glaze
- 150 g powdered sugar
- 2–3 tbsp milk or cream
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
👩🍳 Instructions
- Prepare the crust:
Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). In a bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs and mix well. Gradually add flour and mix until a soft dough forms. - Layer the base:
Press two-thirds of the dough evenly into a lined baking pan. Set aside the remaining dough. - Make the filling:
In a bowl, combine sliced apples, sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, and cornstarch. Mix well until apples are coated. - Assemble:
Spread the apple mixture evenly over the crust. Crumble or gently spread the remaining dough over the apples. - Bake:
Bake for 35–40 minutes or until golden brown. Allow to cool completely. - Glaze:
Whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Spread over cooled bars. Let set before slicing into squares.
